Book Review - Teleprinter Handbook
Teleprinter Handbook, Second Edition 1983,
A.G. Hobbs, E. Yeomanson & A.C. Gee, Radio Society of Great Britain,
ISBN 0 900612 59 2
"This handbook covers the theory and practice of modern radio teleprinter equipment, both European and American. In addition to full description and maintenance data of most of the popular machines it fully describes the design and use of ancillary equipment. Although theory is covered, this is not only a book for the library but also for the engineer's desk and the workbench. For all who design, service or use teleprinter equipment, this volume will be invaluable."
Aimed at the radio amateur market this is a very practical book with circuit diagrams for the constructor and mechanical diagrams of machines. It covers not just Creed models, up to the 444 (BPO Teleprinter No 15), but some Teletype and Lorenz printers too. Terminals units to allow a printer to be used on air are explained with circuits that can be built by the amateur.
Out of print, but may be found at amateur radio rallies or via a second-hand book search.
