Book Review - Telephony Volumes 1 & 2.
Now long out of print, these books were used as part of the training syllabus for Post Office apprentices. They are full of interesting information relating to telephones and exchanges, Volume one covering telephone circuits and manual switching equipment and Volume 2 moving on to automatic switching including PABX's, director and non-director exchanges and UAX's.
In their day, these books were considered to be "the Bible" for people in the telecommunications industry, and for those of us interested in the preservation of old exchange equipment they still are. I certainly wish I had known about these books at an earlier point in my life.
There were two incarnations of this pair of books, the first by Herbert & Procter, and the second by J Atkinson. They turn up fairly often at swapmeets for a good price, and can often be found on EBay or in secondhand bookshops.
