History

MNDX No. 323 was found in a BT car park near Blackburn in November 2002. BT didn't even know it was there, but eventually they agreed to donate to a preserved railway.

On the move to a new home...
"The exchange is unrestored, inside and out, but is totally complete and was able to carry calls after only an hours 'fiddling'. It is painted business systems blue at the moment, but is green underneath the blue. Some repairs have already been made by us to the chassis to replace rotten metal and the leaking roof has been fixed."

The Restoration

The new owners plan to completely repaint and sign-write the outside during 2003 and re-grade and restore the inside early in 2004. Once completed, this MNDX will eventually serve the railway as part of a planned extension, all linked into the rest of the network.

MNDX No. 323
August 2003 and work has commenced on the trailer...

A primer is applied to the cleaned up bodywork, next a grey undercoat is applied, then the first of two green top coats.

All the chassis still needs to be painted as does the roof but it's a good start to the restoration process, while the weather allows work outside to progress.

The GPO logo is applied
June 2004 and the bodywork is completed with the GPO lettering and logo.

It is hoped that the roof and chassis can be painted before the autumn, then a start can be made on the restoration inside, during the winter months.
